 Mt Alford Wine History

Quote from Queensland Times Newspaper, 1877 James Cavanagh “an old honest hardworking agriculturist” from the Hunter River planted 2.5 acres of ‘good wine making grapes’ on the Teviot Brook at Mt Alford. Later reports wrote that the Mt Alford wines ‘were not to be despised.’ In the 1880’s to the 1920’s vineyards stretched from Mt Alford to Ipswich.

The Industry is again on the move with vineyards at Purga, Harrisville, Peak Crossing and Mt Alford proving their ability to produce award-winning wines.
